Joyce Eastwood was last seen together with her best friend, Hazel Pope .
The pair had worked together at the Noarlunga meat works. On the day of their disappearance they were seen arriving for work together in Mrs Pope’s car. After unloading two suit cases from the car they were picked up by a taxi. Neither woman has been seen or heard from since.
They arrived from the UK in 1968. Joyce and her husband and their six children arrived in Perth on a ship. Hazel, her husband and their five children arrived there on a plane in the same year. Both families lived in an immigration hostel at Fremantle for a year until moving to Koolyanobbing, Northeast of Perth in WA's Goldfields, where Mr Eastwood and Mr Pope worked in a mine. In 1970, both families moved to Christies Beach in Adelaide's south.
Police found out the pair had resigned a week before disappearing. Hazel Pope also had withdrawn $3400 from a joint bank account. The only lead came weeks later when Mr Eastwood received an account from a shop in Perth requesting payment for goods purchased in the name of Hazel Eastwood.
