Clothing & Personal Items
Circumstances of DisappearancePelzer was stationed at the 13th WINGS. He came home regularly when he was off duty to see his family. He had declared that he wanted to sign on with the army for 15 years. He called his mother on the 29th of May 1980, saying he was coming home for the weekend. He never came back and was reported as a deserter. Investigations showed that three mates of Pelzer were transfered to other bases. Only his civilian suit and his army shoes were missing from his kit. In his personal belongings a tightly folded Model C report was found stating: "Private Gerard Pelzer was found unconscious alongside the road by two German civilians and was brought to the base infirmary." The military authorities never mentioned this fact. Several other disturbing facts were discovered. In his personal belongings a present for his mother and his civilian identity card were found.
