Carol was last seen in Troy, MI, on the night of October 26 with a friend, Albert Connor of Farmington Hills. Carol was living with her estranged husband at the time. She did not leave a note of her whereabouts for her children, which was uncommon for her if she was leaving to go somewhere. Friends were concerned and said Carol would never leave her children. She was the heiress to the Kmart Corporation.
Carol's daughter reported Carol missing after the daughter returned home from school on October 27.
Carol was declared legally dead in 1993.
