Gabriel Minarcin was last seen around 5:30 p.m. on January 14, 1982. He and his friend, Jon Dabkowski, were walking to Gabriel's home, located a few doors down from Jon's house. Neither have been seen or heard from since.
The following day, bloodhounds led searchers to a hole in the partially frozen Allegheny River near the boys' homes. A neighbor had also reported seeing kids walking on the ice at 5:45 p.m. on the day of their disappearances. For days, searchers combed the banks and divers searched the frozen river but nothing was found.
It is believed that the boys may have been playing on the ice and had fallen through it.
