Rachel Mellon-Skemp was last seen at her residence in Bolingbrook, Illinois on January 31, 1996.
Rachel had a sore throat and stayed home from school. According to Rachel's step-father, at around 2:30 p.m. Rachel went into her bedroom to take a nap while he went out to walk the dog. When he returned home, he didn't check on her.
Rachel was discovered missing that evening when her mother came home from work and went into Rachel's bedroom to tell her it was time for dinner. Rachel's purse, coat, and winter clothers were still at her home. A blanket and pillows were missing.
In 2000, Rachel's step-father and mother were subpoenaed to testify before a grand jury and investigators took blood, hair, and saliva samples from the step-father.
No one has ever been charged in Rachel's disappearance.
