Circumstances of Discovery

A barge operator contacted authorities after discovering a body floating in the Illinois and Michigan (I&M) Shipping Canal near Interstate Highway 55 and 1st Avenue.

The body was determined to be that of a male who was approximately 50-65 years old, 5’9” tall, and 185 lbs. It is believed that the unidentified man may have been homeless at the time.

Metal objects were attached to the body via rope. When the initial autopsy was conducted, it was determined that there was no indication of foul play and that the man had apparently drowned.
