In September of 1986, Julia had moved from Rockford, Illinois to Kansas City to live with her brother in an apartment at 4912 Grand Avenue.
On November 16, 1986, Julia told her brother she was leaving to visit a co-worker. She never returned home and all of her personal belongings were left behind at her residence.
On March 30, 1987, North Kansas City police stopped a man driving Julia's 1974 light blue Mercury Comet. When police determined the car didn't belong to the driver, the car was impounded. The man was questioned several times and denied any involvement in Julia's disappearance. However, he was caught in several lies during questioning.
Police also learned several months before the driver was stopped in Kansas City, a different car was stopped near Crestwood, Illinois, with the same license plates issued to Julia's car.
Foul play is suspected in Julia's disappearance.
