  • Case History

Two hikers discovered the victim's nude body in Pogonip Park, a wooded area near the University of California - Santa Cruz campus. Her clothing was found down trail in the opposite direction from the body.

The area where the body was found was used by the homeless for camping. Investigators discovered an abandoned tent with indications that someone may have been trying to destroy evidence and left suddenly.

Hair analysis indicated that she may have been in the Santa Barbara area within three months of her death.

Known by investigators as "Pogonip Jane," she is buried at the Soquel Cemetery on Old San Jose Road.
