On August 7, 1993 at approximately 2:30 a.m., Tammy left her residence and headed to her ex-boyfriend, Gregory Agnew's residence to pick up personal belongings that she left there when she moved out the night before. The ex-boyfriend states that she arrived, they talked, and then she left. Her vehicle, which was still running and the door open, was located around 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 7, 1993, illegally parked on Cornell Street in Ypsilanti. Her family has not seen nor heard from Tammy since her disappearance.
The main suspect in Niver's disappearance was her ex-boyfriend, Gregory Agnew, who is also the father of her child, though he was never charged with her murder. There were frequent reports of abuse to Niver and her child at Agnew's hands despite his claim otherwise. On February 17, 2018, Agnew's wife, Martha McGeorge Agnew, was strangled to death; her death was staged to look like an overdose. In 2019, Agnew was charged with and convicted of first degree murder of Martha. Officials are now hoping to pursue a criminal case against Agnew for Niver's murder.
