Circumstances of Disappearance

Culberson was last seen around 23.30 when she was dropped off at her home, in Blanchester, Ohio on August 28, 1996. She belonged to a volleyball league in her hometown of Blanchester, Ohio, and she had participated in a game in the nearby town of Morrow. After the game, Culberson and her teammates rode around Blanchester, searching for something to do. Around 23.30, Culberson was dropped off at her home. Allegedly, this was the last time anyone saw Carrie Culberson alive.

One of Culberson's neighbors saw Carrie get dropped off that night and a few moments later saw Culberson's 1987 red Honda CRX backed out of the driveway and headed down the block.

The next morning at around 06.00, Carrie's mother noticed her daughter's car was not in the driveway. She immediately began to drive around Blanchester searching for Carrie, and the first place she drove was past the home of Carrie's longtime boyfriend, 24-year-old Vincent Doan.

He wasn't home, nor was Carrie's car in front of the house. Carrie's mother caught up with Doan later that day at the home of his father. He claimed he hadn't seen Carrie in three days.

Carrie Culberson had dated Vincent Doan for two years, and this relationship caused much concern of those closest to Carrie. Less than a month before Carrie disappeared, she had sustained an injury to her head causing her to need (5) staples to close the cut, from where she had been hit in the head with a space heater thrown by Doan. Carrie had pending assault charges from this past altercation as well.

After days passed without Carrie's return, suspicion would begin to focus on Vincent Doan.

On August 29, 1996, at approximately 12:20 a.m., a neighbor of Doan witnessed him hitting Carrie in the head. At approximately 1:30 a.m., Doan allegedly spoke with his father, Lawrence Baker, on the telephone about an undisclosed matter. At 3:15 a.m., Doan allegedly arrived at the residence of his brother, Tracey Baker, with blood on his chest, arms, and pants. Doan then allegedly took a shower and left the residence with Tracey Baker, who was carrying a handgun and garbage bags.

Almost a year to the date of Carrie's disappearance, the jury found Doan guilty of the murder of Carrie Culberson. Doan was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Carrie Culberson and her 1989 Red Honda CRX are still missing. Her vehicle is a hatchback with the Ohio licence plate number ROL 402. The registration was due to expire in 1997.
