Circumstances of Disappearance

Richard Loren Uden was last seen with his mother, Virginia Uden , and younger brother, Reagan . The Udens were last seen leaving Virginia's mother's home in the vicinity of the 700 block of N. Federal Court in Riverton at approximately 1:30 p.m. on September 12, 1980. They were en route to meet the boys' adoptive father in their station wagon. They never arrived.

Their car was found abandoned and vandalized on October 4, 1980 near Dickson Park Road and Trout Creek Canyon in the Wind River Canyon area of Fremont County, Wyoming. Traces of Virginia's blood were discovered inside the vehicle.

In 2013, Gerald Uden pleaded guilty to the deaths of his ex-wife and the sons he adopted. He testified that he shot them and hid their bodies in the Lewiston gold mine in the South Pass area. On November 5, 1980, he removed the bodies and put them in 55- and 35-gallon drums before depositing the drums in Fremont Lake.

In 2014, Fremont County Sheriff's Office, in conjunction with the Wyoming Attorney General's Office and the Sublette County Sheriff's Office, began the search and possible recovery for the bodies. As of April 2015, the search is ongoing.
