The decedent was found in the weeds along a railroad embankment inside a transient camp located at Trent and Erie Street near downtown Spokane. Several transients staying in the area stated that they had known the decedent and that he had gone by the name "Slow Harold".

Autopsy results showed manner of death as homicide due to skull fracture. The head was partially severed from the body after death. The body was partially skeletonized.

A clothing label had the name or word "KLENE" written in permanent ink. There were also two items of clothing that had what appeared to be dry cleaning labels inside of them which read "Troy Linen Company" and "N-1805-75-1".
