Circumstances of Discovery

An abandoned infant had been placed in the narrow space between a storm door and inner door at a rowhouse in the unit block of Rhode Island Avenue NE. After hearing cries and finding the baby girl, the home owners called police. She was taken to Children's hospital where doctors found her to be in good health and estimated she was 5 days old. Placental fluid was found in her hair and some blood was found on her blanket leading police to believe she was not born in a hospital. The infant was transferred to St. Anne's Infant and Maternity Home in Hyattsville and as of 1999 was placed in preadoptive foster care.
