Two ranch hands rototilling in a field at the Duck Lake Ranch, which is north of Gerlach on highway 447, unearthed partial skeletal remains buried no more than 2 feet into the ground.
Anthropological examination revealed the partial skull found had defects consistent with a gunshot wound and blunt force trauma. The torso, one or more limbs, and one or both hands were not recovered.
