A stolen plane crashed shortly after taking off from an airport in Marsh Harbour. According to the medical examiner and a forensic anthropologist, the co-mingled remains from the crash belonged to a 50 year old white male (this decedent) and an estimated 20 year old male believed to be a Colombian national.
According to an informant, this decedent is Jamas Laval Hurst. James was out on bond after having been arrested for shooting another individual in Florida. James' ex-wife paid for his plane fare to the Bahamas. James and another man were reportedly taken to the airport in Marsh Harbor where they stole a plane belonging to a man from West Palm Beach. Shortly after takeoff the plane crashed. The remains were returned to Naples and a death certificate for this decedent was issued for James Laval Hurst. However, the Naples Police Department does not accept the presumptive indentification and consider James Hurst still at large and the identification of this decedent unknown.
