Bratcher was last seen on June 15, 1974 in Ocean City, WA. His mother had full custody at the time she sent Jeffrey and his siblings to visit his father and stepmother. The father took them to Ocean City, WA and while they were playing near a picnic area inside of Ocean City State Park, Jeffrey disappeared. The six children were told that supper would be ready at 19.00. But when the kids started back to the picnic site, Jeffrey said he was going to return by a different trail and meet them there.
A 72 hour search produced no trace of Jeffrey. The dogs provided the only clue in the case when they found what might have been Jeffrey's trail leading to the park entrance, but his scent vanished at the edge of the pavement. Convinced the boy was no longer in the area, investigators issued an all-points bulletin in Washington and Oregon announcing the boy was missing and possibly kidnapped. He has not been seen nor heard from since.
