In February 2013, the Groeneveldt family turned in a human skull to Hinton RCMP. The family believes their late father received the skull as a gag gift at a party he attended in Hinton in the late 1960s or early 1970s. The exact origin of the skull is uncertain, but the original location where the skull was found may have been Lloydminster, Alberta.
