Grossman walked out of the residence he shared with his mother, west of Boca Raton, FL at about 9:30 p.m. on August 3, 1997. Grossman left the house after a brief argument with his mother, who wanted him to go to bed early so he wouldn't be tired for work the next day. Grossman said he didn't want to go to work and his mother went to bed not thinking about it.
Grossman watched television in the living room for a few minutes after the argument and then "all of a sudden went out the front door" with only blue shorts on, his mother said. Grossman was known to have a bad temper. He left on foot, with no shirt or shoes and had no vehicle, money or identification with him and has not been seen nor heard from since. Police and his mother initially thought he had been staying with friends to cool off for a few days. When friends and family were unable to contact him two days after his disappearance, he was reported missing.
On October 20, 1997, Grossman's girlfriend received a call stating his body had been dumped in a canal by Southwest 18th Street, a sheriff's helicopter searched canals and waterways for Grossman, but found nothing.
Grossman was a senior at Spanish River High School and had been working part-time during the summer at St. Andrew's School as a camp counselor. Friends at Spanish River describe Grossman as a bright, down-to-earth kid who stayed out of trouble and planned to attend college. He has not been seen nor heard from since.
