Cathy, who planned to go to a dance on the evening of September 24, 1971, at the YMCA, asked her father if he would drop her off downtown so she could buy a new pair of pantyhose and a tube of toothpaste. He dropped her off at Cumberland Avenue sometime between 3 and 4 .M. and headed back to work.
Cathy finished her errands, stopped by a downtown music store, and told a girlfriend she was heading home to get ready for the dance. Cathy then started out on foot down Forest Avenue for the 1.5 mile walk home. She never arrived home and has not been seen since her disappearance.
According to investigators, it is believed Cathy was taken against her will by an older boyfriend and his acquaintance to the Maliseet Tobique First Nations reservation in New Brunswick for a few days in September 1971. They then stayed at a farm in Mars Hill to harvest potatoes. It is theorized she died on the reservation before Thanksgiving of 1971. No one has been charged with Cathy's disappearance and family has had no contact with her since 1971.
