McChurin was last seen near the corner of F and Elmira streets in Muskogee, Oklahoma on March 18, 1997.
McChurin had just completed her shift at the Tastee Freez that was across the street from Muskogee Regional Medical Center. After leaving work, McChurin reportedly took a cab to a friend's house. She has not been seen since.
McChurin was sitting on the front porch of the friend's residence at the time of her disappearance. Her friend's mother went inside the house for a few moments. When she returned, she saw a large dark-colored vehicle turning the corner. There was no sign of Jamie and she has never been seen again. It is not clear if the unidentified car was involved in her disappearance.
An extensive search produced few clues as to Jamie's whereabouts.
Jamie does not have a history of running away from her home. She left behind a young daughter. Authorities suspect she may have been taken against her will by person(s) unknown.
In 2005, a farm pond near Summit was drained, and became a point of interest in the investigation. A rifle and ammunition were found, and cadaver dogs hit on a couple of areas. However, it is unknown if any of these discoveries are related to Jamie's disappearance.
