Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Disappearance
Kevin Ellsworth disappeared the night of July 11, 1982 when he was reported to have been sleeping in a basement room of the Rex Hotel the night it burnt down.
He'd done some janitorial work for his father in the hotel and had a key. After flames engulfed the hotel, the car Ellsworth had been using earlier that day was found across the street from the hotel.
After the fire, his remains were not found, and it was rumored that a woman recognized a person with Ellsworth's distinctive style of clothing walking in the Falls the next day.
Earlier in the night of his disappearance, he was involved in a disruption at the local Union Hall. In the continuing investigation officers had found that a person who was with Kevin Ellsworth at the Union Hall stated that about 0230 Kevin left from the Union Hall heading toward the Bowling alley. His parting words were
"Anybody who stayes around here is going to jail, come with me to heaven."
His remains were not recovered, and soon after, a key from the Rex Hotel was found in a nearby area. It is unknown if the key recovered was from the room Kevin was purported to be sleeping in.
He has ties to Washington State as that is where his family lived.
