Syble, who lived alone for 18 years, was last seen at her residence at approximately 8:30 p.m. on April 28, 1997.
When she did not show up at her job as a part-time receptionist at the DeSoto Sheriff's Department, family members went to her home. Signs of foul play were discovered inside the house, the front door was pushed in from 5 to 6 feet up from the bottom of the door, and the screen door was cut to unhook the latch. Potted plants and furniture in the area around the front door were spilled and moved around.
Syble was declared legally dead in 2004.
