Rebecca A. Doisy
Missing since August 5, 1976 from Columbia, Missouri
Classification: Endangered Missing
Circumstances of Disappearance
Becky Doisy was last seen on August 5, 1976, leaving her apartment in Columbia, with a suspect in her disappearance, Johnny Wright. The two were seen in a bar together later that evening. Her sister reported her missing on August 7. Wright had been asking Rebecca Doisy for dates, repeatedly calling her at work because she wouldn't give him her home number. Rebecca Doisy decided to have a drink with him to explain to him that he needed to leave her alone.
After Doisy's disappearance, Wright failed to show up at his job and could not be found for several days. When he did surface, police said he failed a polygraph examination. But police said they lacked the evidence to charge him at the time. In 1985, an informer came forward with new information. The informer told police that he had seen Doisy's body, covered by a blanket, in the back seat of Wright's car on the night she disappeared.
Charges of second-degree murder were brought against Wright in November 1985. But a nationwide search for Wright was unsuccessful. Wright was located and arrested in October 2009.
At the time of her disappearance Becky Doisy had dropped out of the University of Missouri and worked as a waitress at what was then called Ernie’s Steak House in Columbia. She was a Kirkwood High School graduate. Her body has never been found.
