Cavet was last seen on his property in the northwestern part of East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana in early June 1996. The retired railroad worker lived like a hermit on a sprawling area of land in the northwestern part of the parish. It was the postal carrier who noticed he was missing in early June 1996.
Cavet never married and loved to ramble around his property with his goats, dogs and cats. Despite his solitary existence, his family said he wouldn't have vanished without a word. His pets were like children to him, and he would not have left them without food or water or anyone to care for them. Animal Control picked up the animals after Cavet was reported missing.
A truck that Cavet bought in March 1996 is also missing, and no records indicate that it was sold before his disappearance. A nationwide search turned up nothing. The truck, a beige 1985 Ford pickup truck with dual rear wheels, had a louvered steel protector over the back window. The protector has three holes in it so the driver can see through the back window. The truck's license plate reads B340220.
