O'Pry was last seen by family members in Shreveport, Louisiana on Friday, July 19, 1996.
She needed a ride to run some errands and because she did not own a car she asked her boyfriend's friend, to give her a ride. After the friend brought Kristi to run her errands they went by her sister's home to visit. They visited with Kristi's sister from 19.00 to 20.00.
Kristi and the friend left together that night and Kristi has never been seen or heard from again by family members.
The friend told the police that he dropped Kristi off at South Park Mall on Jewella Avenue in Shreveport at 20:30 that night. Detectives have investigated many leads but have been unable to confirm her whereabouts after she left her sister's house in south Shreveport in a white, early-model Chevrolet fleet-side pickup truck.
Kristi was living at 10197 Linwood Avenue in Shreveport at the time of her disappearance. She had only lived at this address for three weeks. One week after Kristi and her longtime boyfriend moved into the Linwood Avenue home, the boyfriend showed up with a friend and announced that he had no place to stay and was going to be moving in. Kristi was not happy with this arrangement at all. They were all living together when Kristi vanished.
Kristi's boyfriend did not inform the family that Kristi was missing for 4 days.
Even though it appeared that none of Kristi's personal belongings were missing from her home, several people witnessed the boyfriend trying to sell Kristi's furniture. He did sell her new couch to a next door neighbor who tried to take possession of the couch the day Kristi's things were removed from her home by family members. Her kitchen table and chairs were missing. This was before the boyfriend reported Kristi as a missing person. He told their landlord that Kristi had gone to California and was never coming back.
Authorities suspect foul play.
In 2007, Eric Mickelson, the last person seen with Kristi O'Pry, confessed to the decade-old murder of Kristi O'Pry. Eric Mickelson is behind bars in the connection with the slaying of an 86 year old man. Mickelson said he has been involved in a total of six murders. He told authorities he strangled her to death with his hands, then disposed of her body in a pond on his Woolworth Road property, but later moved the body to a location on Jefferson Paige Road.
Investigators are trying to locate O'Pry's remains.
