Circumstances of Disappearance
Mahoney was last seen in Fargo, North Dakota on October 2, 1993. He left a friend's house in North Fargo to walk to his brothers home in South Moorhead. His brother was not home and it is unclear if Mahoney ever arrived there.

 Mahoney lived with his mother and always called when he was going to be late coming home, so she would not lock him out. After not hearing from him for a couple of days, his sister stopped by the friend's house and was told that Mahoney had left. The family then contacted police. According to family members, he normally kept in close contact and would not just leave.

 Authorities have investigated the case both as a missing person’s case and as a potential homicide because of suspicious circumstances surrounding it.
