Irin, who lived in St. Louis, Missouri, was on a month long vacation on the West Coast. She paid camping fees for two nights at a campsite at Harris Beach State Park on July 19, 1979. She was last seen on July 20 when she purchased gas in Brookings.
Park staff found her tent containing her belongings and pet cat when Irin failed to check out of the park. Her family reported her missing July 23. Irin's car was found abandoned in the parking lot of Whaleshead Beach State Park, 5 miles north of Brookings, on July 29, 2012.
The Curry County Sheriff theorized at the time that Irin may have fallen off a cliff.
