Circumstances of Disappearance
Jean McKinney was last seen by her children on April 13, 1982. She worked part-time at Abilities Unlimited. But on April 15th, she never showed up for work. She was reported missing by her daughter.
Investigators quickly named McKinney's 2nd husband their prime suspect. On the morning of her disappearance neighbors say they saw McKinney and her husband drive off in the husband's truck. The husband also removed a large piece of carpet from inside the home. The carpet was there on the 13th in the utility room. On the 15th, he tore it out. He claimed that the washer leaked on it. One of the witnesses said that he left later on that morning with a barrel in the back of his vehicle and returned about 35 or 40 minutes later without the barrel in the vehicle. The husband still claims to have had nothing to do with McKinney's disappearance.
All this information led investigators to believe McKinney's body was buried somewhere in a rural area near Pearcy.
Weeks after McKinney's disappearance, her car, a Chevrolet Caprice, showed up at the Little Rock Airport. But authorities don't believe she got on a plane because there was no record of any tickets in her name and she was terrified of flying. McKinney has never been found, and her disappearance is still an open case.
