Arnna, Jane and Grant Ellis Beaumont left their home at 10 am on January 26, 1966, to go to the beach.
From their home in the Adelaide suburb of Somerton Park, they caught a bus to nearby Glenelg beach. They were expected to return home on the noon bus, but didn't. Between the time the children left home, and the time that they should have left the beach to come home, they were seen by at least 7 people. Five of these people saw the children with a man, but the last saw nobody with them.
A witness reported she was sitting on a seat on the sea side of the sailing club when she saw two girls and a boy come up from the sea after a swim. What attracted her attention later was a tall, blond-haired man who had started talking to the children. The three children had gone over to him and he was laughing and encouraging them as they played.
Neither the children nor the man have ever been seen again. In the following days and weeks, a massive search was mounted for the children. Not a single thing was found.
The Suspect
A man, probably Australian, in his late 30s or early 40s, around 185 centimeters in height, with thin face and build. His hair was long and in need of cutting, especially at the back. It was light brown in color, and parted on the side. He was sun tanned, with a naturally fair complexion, and was described by some witnesses as a "surfie". When seen he wore only a pair of navy blue swimming trunks. He was also in possession of a pair of trousers and a towel.
