Paola Costantini and her niece Rosalia Molin disappeared in 1991. They were going to accompany Rosalia's brother to his job.
The three took the ferry from Burano and disembarked in Treporti, where they continued the trip with Rosalia's car. When the car began to skid, they discovered that three bolts were missing from a wheel. It may have been tampered with.
At this point they met Rosalia's ex-boyfriend. He was later on suspected for the disappearance of the two women. He went with the brother to his job and after a while returned with the tools to repair the wheel. When he returned the women were gone.
The last clue in the case of the missing Burano women came in March, 1992, when a fisherman spotted a plastic envelope floating in the water near Treporti, close to a point where the Adriatic flows into the lagoon. It contained Paola Costantini’s codice fiscale (a kind of Italian social security card), identity card, and ACTV vaporetto (waterbus) pass. Divers combed the lagoon bottom, but turned up nothing.
Paola and Rosalia has never been seen again.
