Mariano Farina and his friend Salvatore Colletta disappeared in the morning of March 31, 1992. They had decided they'd play hooky and have a picnic on the beach. So, they asked a friend to drive them by his motorbike to the beach, 2 km from the town, near the houses, which are closed out of season. They bought fruit-juices and biscuits for eight thousand lire, charging the sum to the account of the Farinas. Before saying good-bye to their friend, Salvatore and Mariano told him they wouldn't be back. The search for them started that evening, without any results. In the past, the two boys had already shown a desire to run away. Mariano was fascinated by the States, where he had lived with his family until 1990, and he dreamt of going back there.
