Fiona Sinnott is missing from Bridgetown, Co. Wexford since Monday 9th February, 1998. Fiona was just nineteen years old and had an eleven month old baby girl. Fiona had just left a toxic relationship in which she was victim of domestic violence. She went several times to the hospital because of her injuries and had black eyes. She moved in her own house with her baby daughter, in Ballyhitt, Broadway, Co. Wexford. She was planning her daughter first birthday party and was looking forward to attending her sister Diane’s 21st Birthday party at the end of February.
On the 8th February Fiona left her home at Ballyhitt, to meet some friends at Butler's pub, in Broadway at 5pm. Fiona stayed here socialising with friends for the evening before leaving the pub at around midnight. She wasn't drunk, she only had one or two drinks. She called her brother to pick her up, but he couldn't come. So she decided to walk back home, saying "See you next week !" to her friends. Her ex-boyfriend was waiting for her at the Butler's door. They spoke a few moments and walk to Fiona's house together.Between midnight and 12.30am on the 9th February at Kisha Cross junction, a man and a woman were seen having a dispute or argument, two other men, in their late teens or early twenties were also seen standing nearby. These people have never been identified and Gardaí would like these 4 people to come forward now.
According to her ex-boyfriend, she complained about a pain in her arm. He stayed the night at Fiona's house and on the morning at 9 am, she said she was going to see a doctor at Bridgetown, but had no money for a taxi. Her ex boyfriend gave her money to get a lift into the town. He then went outside to reach his mother who was waiting for him in her car. Fiona never attended the the appointment she had with her doctor that day. Her relatives confirmed that her ex-boyfriend was harassing her for
Nobody had news from her for 9-10 days and thought maybe she ran away somewhere to have a break, but Fiona never came to her sister's birthday on the 28th of February and she gave no news about her baby's birthday, who was babysitted at that time. From that point, her family knew something was wrong. The landlord came to her house to check on her, but there was nobody in there. Lakes and every water points were checked. For the anniversary of her disappearance, her relatives installed a plaque, which was quickly removed by an unidentified individual.
In 2017, a forensic examination took place at Fiona’s home in Ballyhitt, with developments in forensic science & techniques, An Garda Síochána and Forensic Science Ireland can gather evidence that was impossible to detect from crime scenes nineteen years ago and with advances in DNA technology and databases they can now compare unknown crime stains with profiles on the DNA database.
In 2022, the investigation is still going and her case is now treated as a murder case investigation.
