Circumstances of Discovery

In the early morning hours of March 3, 1994 forest workers discovered this victim's body buried. He was located in the woods near the city of Idar-Oberstein and approximately 2 kilometers away from Georg-Weierbach (one of the city´s smaller districts). The man was found lying in a sleeping-bag from the German Federal Armed Forces and additionally wrapped into large blue rubbish bags. The postmortem examination revealed that the man was killed by massive use of force. Further police investigation revealed that the man appeared to have lived among the homeless. He is thought to have lived in the region of Idar-Oberstein for some time because the shoes and a jacket found at the location of the body were bought in the city. The results of the reconstruction have led the investigators to think that the man originally came from the Balkans or Southeast Europe.
