Patricia McAdam never returned to her home in Dumfries after a night out with a friend from Annan on February 19, 1967.
She was last seen being driven off in a wagon toward Dumfries after the driver dropped off her friend in Annan in the early hours. The two had earlier accepted a lift home from a trucker following a trip to Glasgow.
Detectives traveled to the Grampian region of Scotland in March 2006, where they arrested and charged a 70-year-old man. The disappearance of Patricia, from Lochside Road, had been treated as a missing person inquiry and was one of the longest cases on police books.
Over the years there were several reported sightings of Patricia, all of which were checked by officers and ruled out.
