Bonnissant was last seen between 3:00 pm and 3:30 pm at the railway station of Rennes, France on February 16, 1996.
Emmanuel joined the Marine Nationale hoping to sail on a military ship. Instead, he was stationed on the ground in the Aeronaval base of Landivisieu. When he found out, he wrote his former girlfriend saying he intended to put an end to his life.
He was supposed to spend 8 days at his girlfriend's house. When he didn't arrive at Rouen Station when he was supposed to, she contacted his parents.
During the investigation his family found traces of him being at the Rennes Station. He had told his friends he was leaving the train to post a birthday card to his brother.
He was never seen again.
